Tenure-Track Position in Korean Studies at Rutgers
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in Korean studies, beginning September 2010. Applications are invited from any of the key areas of Korean studies, including Korean language and literature, prose and poetry, intellectual history, cultural studies, visual and popular culture, films studies, and literary theory and criticism.
Candidates should show mastery of the intellectual heritage that is the foundation for both teaching and research on traditional and modern Korea and be able to address that heritage from a variety of vantage points, such as social formation, regional relations and interaction, race, class, gender, or popular cultural practices.
The candidate selected will teach undergraduates in various majors and serve as an integral part of Rutgers’ programs in Korean and in East Asian languages, literatures, and cultures. She or he will be expected to undertake cutting-edge scholarly investigation and be able to maintain the ongoing relations already established with universities and scholarly institutions in Korea and other East Asian countries. Depending on area of specialization, the new member may also contribute to the Program in Comparative Literature, the Transliteratures Project, and serve as a core member of Asian studies, Global studies, and International studies.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or have completed the Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment. A commitment to scholarly research and service to the university and the field is expected. Salary is competitive.
